SOBRE O TRABALHO
O trabalho de Claudio Montagna consiste em colagens feitas sobre lona (revistas eróticas masculinas e femininas) com interferência de tinta acrílica em maior ou menor grau.
Inicialmente descartáveis, tais imagens são transformadas em afrescos contemporâneos de formatos variados. A técnica aqui converte o recorte em pincelada: o interesse é na pintura mas não aquela feita somente com tinta e pincel.
O anonimato destes retratos tem forte caráter de abstração. Em seguida e por aproximação eles admitem contrariar tais efeitos de modo localizado: são agora colônias de epidermes e membros selecionados.
A ambição é de articular teor escultórico (a partir do ilusionismo fotográfico) e de pintura
(a bidimensionalidade do suporte) subvertendo assim a figuração humana, o assunto, em estrutura visual vertiginosa.
Nos últimos anos, o artista vem experimentando novos meios como objetos, instalações e fotografias.
ABOUT THE WORK
Claudio Montagna´s work consists of collages on canvas made up of a series of snippets of male and female nudes, cut out from erotic magazines which were then covered with acrylic paint to varying degrees.
The clippings were thus transformed into contemporary frescoes of various dimensions. This technique of cutting and pasting images is indeed like a brushstroke – painting is still the focus but not created solely by paint and brush.
Initially these anonymous paintings appear to be quite abstract in character. However, upon closer inspection, one sees what those images are made of. The artist´s ambition is to articulate content that is not only painting-like (two dimensional), but also sculpture-like, making use of photographic illusionism to create a perception of something three-dimensional, thus undermining the human configuration (or subject) by optical action to the vertigo.
In recent years the artist is experimenting with objects, installations and photos.
